University Prep Science & Math

As an innovative leader in urban education, U Prep students in grades K-12 are prepared for a world full of possibilities. Since its inception, U Prep Schools has lived up to its promise of achieving a 90% high school graduation rate and a 90% college acceptance rate of all high school seniors. This promise, known as the Detroit 90/90 Promise, is one of U Prep’s oldest and most distinctive defining differences.

Another defining difference of U Prep Schools is our unique Expeditionary Learning model that requires a commitment from the entire U Prep community of school leaders, teachers, and staff who we call Crew. The Crew works together to ensure the success of each and every child. We do this by working with each child individually, meeting them where they are in their educational journey, and providing opportunities to engage in unique learning opportunities and experiences. Through our pathways and after school programs, students are inspired to seek, discover and pursue their passions.  Each child’s social, emotional, and academic needs are met in order to achieve success.

U Prep Schools provides a safe and nurturing environment that is ripe for learning. When visiting our schools you will notice another distinguishing difference, our culture. The U Prep community lives, works and learns through a distinctive set of core values that creates this culture at all of our schools.

In a city with a history of having low high school graduation rates, the founders of U Prep Schools wanted to make a difference in the lives of children and in the delivery of education in Detroit.

As one of the oldest and largest charter schools in the city, U Prep Schools was founded based on the belief that measurable outcomes will guide us in the work that we do.

Aligning with the schools’ mission of ensuring that students are prepared for college and to achieve success in life, the founders, board, school leaders, and faculty made a promise that 90% of the students served will graduate and be accepted to a college of their choice. This promise, known as the Detroit 90/90 Promise has been consistently measured and achieved for the past 20 years.

Known as innovators in urban education, the Detroit 90/90 Promise is U Prep’s oldest and most distinctive defining difference.
