ADVISORY

When students enter UPA Ellen Thompson Elementary School they are placed in a class with one highly qualified teacher and 15 other students. This group stays together for two years. This enables teachers to get to know each student very well and maximize opportunities for learning. Students, parents, and teachers build strong, collaborative relationships that are used to accelerate the development of every individual student. At the start of the second year, students know exactly what to expect. They have developed a strong bond with their teacher and peers, and everyone can get deeply involved in learning from day one.

Elementary students receive instruction in English Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, and Science in their classroom groupings. They also spend one hour per day in AMPT (Art, Music, Physical Education, and Technology) classes. These classes are taught by teachers who specialize in these areas.

POLICIES

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Learn more about the attendance and tardiness policies enforced at UPA Ellen Thompson. Maintaining regular and timely school attendance is critical to academic achievement and school success. The charts below outline parent and staff/advisor responsibilities regarding student attendance and tardiness.

    TARDINESS POLICY

School begins promptly at 8:15 A.M. It is imperative that all students arrive to school on time for optimal learning. When students are late, they miss instruction, which affects academic achievement. In addition the morning lessons are disrupted for all and routines cannot be established. This is also consistent with removing your student early from school.
