On behalf of the faculty and staff at U Prep Schools thank you for your patience and flexibility as we work together to ensure that the needs of our students, families, and community are being met through this crisis.

As information becomes available regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and state-mandated school closure, updates will be provided through a variety of communication channels to include; RoboCall, Text Messaging, Email, and this new web page.

This web page will provide you access to previously distributed communications regarding COVID-19, a status on confirmed cases within our three districts, updates regarding the school closure, key contacts, and information on prevention, and resources to help keep our families safe and healthy throughout the crisis.

Please know that information regarding the impact of COVID-19 to our region is changing rapidly and the team at U Prep is committed to keeping you informed of such changes.

Parent Communications

Spring Break will take place as normally scheduled, April 6th – 10th.  Should school reopen, our first day back will be Monday, April 13th. We will continue to watch the developments at the state and federal levels and will keep you informed. Please be advised that the President of the United States has cancelled all K-12 Standardized Testing for the remainder of this school year.

Confirmed Cases

As of April 2, 2020, 10 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the U Prep community.

If you experience any symptoms of the COVID-19 virus, please call your healthcare provider for medical advice, reach out to the Detroit Health Department at (313) 876-4000 for guidance or visit the Center for Disease Control (CDC) website at https://www.cdc.gov/.

Please visit this site to receive additional updates concerning COVID-19.

Learning Packet Pick-Up

Each campus prepared printed learning packets that will be available for pick up on Tuesday, March 17th and Wednesday, March 18th from 7 am – 11 am and again from 2 pm – 6 pm for all U Prep school districts.

Learning Packets that were not picked up have been mailed home. If you don’t receive your child’s packet, please notify your child’s teacher and they can provide them to you electronically.

Please be sure to share any good news that is happening with your scholar in his/her home school environment so we can share it with the U Prep Community on our social media platforms or perhaps in a future e-newsletter.

Google Classroom

Teachers are using a variety of web platforms to interact with families. Google Classroom, Remind Me, Bloomz and others. They will be available during the hours of  8:30 am – 3:30 pm daily.  Please allow at minimum a 30-45 minute response to ensure each scholar is assisted appropriately.  We will continue to learn ways to engage with students as we progress.

If you are having any technical challenges, contact Leandra Baker, IT Coordinator, via email at  servicedesk@uprepschools.com.  Please make certain you state your problem and  leave your contact information. Meal Program

The health and well being of our families is of our utmost concern. We are working to finalize the details for the weeks ahead of our meal distribution program with our supplier Variety Foods. Updates to our program will be provided to our families via Robocall, Email, and will be posted below.

The U Prep staff remains committed to supporting our families during Spring break. Meal distribution to our families for next week is scheduled for Monday, April 6, 2020 at UPA High School, located at 600 Antoinette. Pick up will begin at 12 noon and meals will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis until they are gone. Each family will receive five breakfasts and five lunches per child. Our team will ensure the process is quick and convenient.

Student Resources

Telecommuting and homeschooling are new to many of us. The combination of both can provide a challenge for families with multiple children of various ages and let’s not forget our beloved pets. There are some great suggestions online on how to convert your home into both a classroom and an office. Attached is a link to some suggestions on How to Adjust to Working Remotely with Kids During COVID-19 and How to Create a Learning Environment in the Home

Our school social workers have also assembled a list of valuable resources that are available to our families during this challenging time.

Click below for recommendations from Athletic Director, Andre Criswell. He has provided helpful tips on keeping your family active during the school closure.

Parent Questionnaire

A brief questionnaire was sent via email to all parents on Thursday, March 12th to help us identify the number of families who do not have internet, computer, printer, or mobile phone access.

This information is vital as we want to ensure that all families receive important updates regarding the COVID-19 virus and lesson plans during the school closure.

If you have not yet completed it please do so as soon as possible so we can gauge the technological needs of our families. Please contact your School Operations Manager if you did not receive a survey and one will be emailed to you.

  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue or upper sleeve when coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoiding contact with people who are sick.
  • Staying home if you are sick and contact your healthcare provider.
